Joeseph E. Murray and his colleagues at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital (1954) in Boston performed the first truly successful kidney transplant from
one twin to another. This was done without any immunosuppressive medication.
In India The first successful renal transplantation in India was performed in
1971 by the team led by Dr. Mohan Rao
and Dr. KV Johny at Christian Medical College, Vellore.
