COronaVIrus Disease ( COVID-19 ) or 2019-nCoV
What is a Coronavirus ?
( Corona meaning :
“ Crown ” )
Coronaviruses
belong to a family known as ‘Coronaviridae’
and under an electron microscope they look
like spiked rings OR virus look like an emperor’s crown. They are named for
these spikes, which from a halo around their viral envelope. Coronaviruses contain a strand of RNA in their
envelope and can’t reproduce without getting inside living cells and hijacking
their machinery. The spikes on the viral envelope held them bind to cells,
which gives them a way in. Once inside, they turn the cell into a virus
factory, using its molecular conveyor belt to produce more viruses, which are
then shipped out. The virus progeny infects other cells and the cycle starts
anew. Typically, these types of viruses are found in animals ranging from
livestock to household pets to wildlife such as bats. When they make the jump
to humans, they can cause fever, respiratory illness and inflammation in the lungs.
TYPES OF
CORONAVIRUS:
There
are four common corona viruses that
cause mild ot moderate upper respiratory tract illnesses, like the common cold.
They are : 229 E ( Alpha Coronavirus) , NL63 (Alpha Coronavirus), OC43 ( Beta
Coronavirus) and KHU1 ( Beta Coronavirus)
While,
the two other human coranaviruses that have been known to frequently caused
severe symptoms are MERS-CoV ( the Beta Coronavirus that causes MERS), SARS-CoV
( the beta coronavirus that causes SARS). Other Coronaviruses can infect
animals like cats, dogs, monkeys and rodents. Since coronavirus antibodies do
not last for a very long time, a person can catch the virus again within
months, Also, the antibodies for one strain of coronavirus may be useless
against other strains.
WHERE DID THE
VIRUS COME FROM ?
The
virus appears to have originated in the Huanan Seafood whole sale market
in Wuhan City ( CHINA ), A Chinese city about 650 miles south of
Beijing that has a population of more than 11 million people. The market sells
fish as well as a panoply of other animal meats. However, its still unknown
whether the virus emerged from an animal species, like SARs and MERS did. The
Wuhan market was shut down on 1st January, 2020.
On
22nd January 2020, a report in the Journal of Medical Virology by a team of
Chinese researchers suggested Snakes were the most probable wildlife animal
reservoir for 2019 – nCoV. They examined the genetic code of the virus and
compared it with that of two types of
Snakes, the many – banded Krait and the Chinese Cobra. The research
demonstrated that the sakes genetic code displayed the most similarities with
the virus. Other animals known to be
sold at the Huanan market ( Bats, birds, hedgehogs and marmots) were also
analyzed but did not show the same level of genetic likeness. Another study refuted these claims, suggesting 2019
–nCoV was harbored by bats.
How many confirmed
cases have been reported ?
Authorities
have confirmed more than 800 cases as of 23rd Jan 2020. The bulk are in China, with a handful of cases
confirmed in Thailand, Japan, South Korea and the US, where a man in his 30s in
Washington state has been confirmed to have the disease. There are four suspected
cases in New South Wales, Australia,
currently being investigated, IN the UK, 14 people have been tested with five
cases dismissed and nine awaiting results. Here is the break down as it stands
China (830 confirmed cases), Thailand (4), Vietnam (2), Japan (2), South Korea
(1), US(1) and Singapore (1).........etc
Features:
1.
Corona viruses were first found in humans in 1960s the viruses cause flu and
gastro intestinal problems.
2.
The virus has protrusions on its surface.
3.
This makes the virus look like an
emperor’s crown and hence the name corona virus.
4.
The protrusions are made of proteins . The virus can also infect cattle, dogs
pigs, camels, birds and hedgehogs apart from humans.
5.
Corona viruses are so named because of the crown like appearance of their virus
particles when seen under an electron microscope. ( Corona meaning crown )
6.
Coronaviruses are a diverse group of viruses that infect and cause disease in
humans and other animals, including pigs and chickens.
7.
The new corona virus outbreak is linked to a market in Wuhan city (China ) which
sold meat and live animals.
8.
It is thought that it originated in
animals.
9.
The wuhan corona virus out break bears similarity to the 2002 – 2003 epidemics of SARS ( Severe Acute Respiratory
Syndrome ) corona virus (SARS – CoV)
10.
The SARS – CoV outbreak, which started in South China, lasted for over nine months.
Human
Corona virus:
1. In
humans, corona virus are thought to cause a significant percentage of all
common colds.
2. Coronaviruses
can also cause pneumonia and bronchitis .
3. The
2003 outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) is caused by a corona
virus, namely the severe acute respiratory syndrome – related corona virus
(SARS – CoV)
Types of Corona viruses
Strains:
There
are Seven strains of the corona virus
documented till date:
1. Human
corona virus 229E (HCoV-229E)
2. Human
Corona Virus OC43 ( HCoV-OC43)
3. New
Haven CoronaVirus ( HCoV – NL63)
4. Severe
Acute Respiratory Syndrome Related Coronavirus ( SARS – CoV)
5. Human
Coronavirus HKU1
6. Middle
East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV)
7. Novel
Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)
The
novel Corona virus is also known as the Wuhan Pneumonia or the Wuhan Corona
virus. It is the virus that is responsible for the 2019-20 outbreak in Wuhan
China.
Why is the Novel Corona
virus a cause for concern ?
The
novel coronavirus has never been observed before, hence there is no specific
treatment for the disease Current anti- viral treatments are also deemed in
effective at combating the illness. Therefore, present treatment is focused
only on alleviating the symptoms of the disease.
Initially
the NCoV was thought to be zoonotic disease, however, current findings suggest that this disease spreads from person
to person. It is suspected to spread through respiratory droplets ( an infected
person sneezing or coughing.. )
Coronavirus Symptoms :
The
reported symptoms of the virus include: Dry Cough, continuous cold, sneezes,
body pains, Digestion problem, Shortness of breath, Tiredness, Fever,
Repiratory distress, Severe infection can lead to other life threatening
conditions such as Pneumonia, Kidney failure, Death usually occurs as a result
of respiratory failure.

HYGIENE PRACTICES TO
HELP PREVENT SPREAD OF NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID -19)
1.
Good hand hygiene is essential to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
2.
Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol –based hand sanitizer
or wash them with soap and water.
3.
Maintain a distance of at least 1 meter (3feet) between you and anyone who is
coughing or sneezing
4.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
5.
Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This
means, covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when your
cough or sneeze. Dispose of the used tissue immediately in a bin
6.
If you have fever, cough, and or difficulty in breathing seek medical care at
the earliest
7.
Stay informed and follow the advice given by your health care provider.
8.
Incase you are unwell, it is advisable to stay at home and avoid contact with
people.
9.
If your children are unwell, refrain from sending them to school.
Preventive Measures
Or Precautions :
1. Drink Lukewarm water, Stand in Sunlight
2. Corona
virus stays on hand just for 10 minutes
3. Corona virus
cannot survive high temperature.
4. Use hot
water, Spirits, Sterilizers….to wash
your hands
5. Corona
virus stays on Clothes only for 9 hours.
6. Corona
virus before it reaches the lungs it remains in the throat for four days and at
this time the person begins to cough and have throat pains. If he drinks water
a lot and gargling with warm water and salt or vinegar eliminates the virus.
7.
When you sneezes, coughs…use tissue paper immediately and throw in dust bins.
And wash your hands with soap immediately.
8.
If symptoms like cold, cough, sneezing,
fever… then used surgical mask of three layers. And don’t use one mask only
several days.
9.
If you want to take care for a disease
patient who is suffering from corona, then Doctor or serving person should
wear N95 Mask.
10.
Don’t be or Don’t spend more time in public areas like
markets, cinema halls, shoping malls……
11.
After using computers, door knob bells,
Tabs, Mobiles, Chairs….wash your hands immediately with soap because this materials also
can causes corona virus.
VIRUS SURVING CAPACITY :
1. Approximately above 30 degree Celsius the virus cannot survive its life.
2. In
ancient time the corona virus depends on host for 12 hours. But this New Novel
coronavirus its stays 2 to 9 days.
Medicine to prevent from Corona Virus Disease:
1. Medicine Available in Homeopathic Clinics or
Hospitals.
2.
AYUSH Department in view of the outbreak of
coronavirus introduced the preventive medicine pills AND it should be taken before getting of the Corona Virus Disease.
3. Arsenicum
Album : Ten pills - once daily in empty stomach for three days.( Note.: After consulting to the Homeopathic Doctors)
